Pastel Accounting 6 was launched yesterday with the message that the latest version of the accounting package is "multi-everything".

Speaking at the launch, Terry Kier, group MD of Pastel , said the latest version of the product includes support for multiple stores as well as for multiple languages, companies and currencies.

Stephen Corrigan, MD of Pastel Software SA, noted that Pastel 6 features improved integration with Microsoft Windows and Office 2000.

Kier said accounting is no longer just about numbers and Pastel 6 is aimed at offering customers a complete business package that is functional as well as scalable. Corrigan said Pastel 6 is modular in design, allowing users to tailor the package to their needs. He added that the core package is similar to the traditional bookkeeping package and users could include modules such as multi-store, multi-currency, point-of-sale and inventory.

Improved Windows and Office integration means users can easily move from Pastel 6 to applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook. Corrigan noted that Pastel 6 includes the option to output data in HTML form, allowing users to e-mail formatted documents to their clients.

On the interface side, Pastel 6 includes two different navigation methods including the new Navigator view, an icon-based navigation screen. A customisable menu facility allows users of third-party reporting software such as Crystal Writer to prepare documents from within the Pastel 6 menu system.

Moving beyond just the numbers, Pastel 6 also features inventory options including a re-order inventory wizard that can be used to monitor stock levels.

"The multi-store module represents a breakthrough," said Corrigan. `It should not be confused with multiple inventory location software... Multi-store goes way beyond that. It links warehousing and manufacturing stores within a company. Each stock item can be categorised and the software can report on a per category, per stock or per store basis."

Pastel 6 is a 32-bit application and the general ledger capacity has been increased to cater for a four-digit main and three-digit sub-account structure.
