Pastel launches new "Xpress" package for entrepreneurs

Johannesburg, 26 Feb 2003

A single company, single-user version of PastelAccounting Xpress software for start-up entrepreneurs that carries a price tag of less than R1 000, is being launched this month (February) by accounting and business software solutions specialist, Pastel Software.

"It is designed for South Africa's unique entrepreneurial needs where price is a major factor," says Terry Kier, managing director of Pastel Software, a Softline company. "Pastel has always supported the entrepreneurial tiers of the market and this package at this price will help many individuals starting their own businesses to seize the opportunities that are being created by empowerment schemes countrywide.

"Pastel itself has a strong entrepreneurial background and part of our focus is the development of accounting software solutions that assist very small business operations to be successful. Hence this low-cost, user-friendly approach without forfeiting features and functionality."

The single company, single-user (SCSU) version of Xpress is now available from major retail outlets countrywide. A soon-to-be released option will be the bundling of the software with a computer hardware package.

Simple to operate yet with strong functionality, Pastel Accounting Xpress is flexible and powerful with a host of features geared to assisting users to effectively manage the basic financial processes critical to the success of a small business.

"As a locally developed product, users are not disadvantaged by the weakness of the rand and exchange rate fluctuations, which tend to affect other international products localised for use in South Africa," says Kier.

He adds that Pastel Accounting Xpress uses the same source code as the flagship SME package, Pastel Accounting V6. "It is therefore a stable and robust product that offers even the smallest users a full upgrade path. We believe it sets new standards in user-friendliness and user interfaces and it is compatible with Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and 2000, as well as Windows XP."

Pastel's goal with Xpress was to produce a program that is easy to set up and use, helping small business people to effectively manage their accounts and money with minimum time and effort, leaving them free to get on with running the operational side of the business.
