Accounting and payroll software developer, Pastel Software, has launched a new interactive online training initiative for dealers and channel partners. PastelCampus encompasses technology that the company believes can bypass traditional learning restrictions.

"This initiative represents a quantum leap forward, complementing the traditional lecture room-type training and overcoming restrictions of space, distance and time," says Stephen Corrigan, MD of Pastel Software SA, a company in the JSE-listed Softline group.

"Technology allows us to bypass traditional restrictions. We can now provide instructor-led, interactive training to our value-added resellers wherever they are - in the comfort of their own homes or in their offices, at their convenience. Set venues, set dates and times and travel are issues of the past," says Corrigan.

He adds that the importance of e-learning via the cannot be overestimated because dealer training is the only means of ensuring that end-users consistently receive the highest possible levels of support, response and service.

The live interactive distance-learning programme allows the student to enter a virtual classroom and receive interactive Internet training. All the student requires is an Internet connection and a PC with sound card, headset/speakers and a microphone.

"We believe that interactive Internet training can add considerable value to our dealers and assist them to strengthen relationships with end-users through more focused and effective training," says Corrigan.

The instructor-led interactive Internet training process allows the trainer to conduct full lessons on-screen and to interact verbally with the students, who can also communicate verbally with each other. Questions can be asked and answered, and concepts fully explored and debated. Individuals can record lessons for later participation or for revision purposes.

"It is a revolutionary, versatile and highly effective method that breaks down all traditional barriers and paves the way to global training while also giving our channel partners far greater freedom of choice. For out-of town candidates, costly travelling time and travel expenses can be entirely eliminated."
