Standard 's MiMoney has partnered with Mr Delivery, allowing people to order food using the MiMoney electronic payment solution for cellphones.

Mr Delivery CEO, Laurence Levine, says: “The MiMoney payment option will assist the roll-out of our growth strategy as it continues to provide alternative convenience solutions to South African homes and businesses.”

Levine believes there is a growing acceptance of remote purchasing by the local public, be it via a call centre or online. He notes that 35% of all Mr Delivery purchases are made with credit cards and 65% with cash. Levine would like to reduce the amount of cash handling in the system over time and cites the advent of the MiMoney voucher mechanism as a move in that direction.

“Mr Delivery's partnership with MiMoney means people with neither cash nor credit card on hand can still enjoy the convenience of our services,” he says.

According to MiMoney, the voucher enables users without credit cards to make transactions online, and also addresses concerns people still have in using their credit cards.

MiMoney says the virtual payment vouchers are safe and convenient and that users will not incur any additional charges from MiMoney in the purchase or use of the voucher.

The company adds that MiMoney users save on transaction fees as the merchant carries this cost and that the service is not exclusive to a specific bank or service provider, so almost anyone can use it.
