PCI counters breaches
security standards (PCI DSS) industry rules have far few data breaches recorded than any other company, according to findings from data security firm Imperva and the Ponemon Institute, reports Elite Tele.com.
In total, that study found that last year 99% of PCI compliant businesses suffered no more than a single credit card related breach compared with 38% of non-compliant organisations.
Only 1% of compliant organisations suffered more than one breach related to credit card data compared with 15% of non-compliant organisations, and 63% of compliant organisations suffered no more than a single breach overall compared with 22% of those which are non-compliant.
Meanwhile, Agiliance, provider of governance, risk and compliance solutions, revealed that it has joined the PCI Security Standards Council as a new participating organisation, notes PR Web.
As a participating organisation, Agiliance will work with the council to evolve the PCI Data Security Standard and other payment card data protection standards.
The PCI DSS, endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa, requires merchants and service providers that store, process, or transmit customer payment card data to adhere to information security controls and processes that ensure data integrity.
