Computer Configurations, the Port Elizabeth-based subsidiary of Computer Configurations Holdings Enterprise Solutions, has linked automotive harness-supplier Leonische`s new East London plant to parent company Leoni`s worldwide network.
Working around the clock with the installer - PE`s Computer Networks - the technology giant avoided downtime for Leonische while supplying the Uitenhage-based subsidiary with its up-to-speed umbilical cord.
The Leoni AG designed and developed FORS GB production and manufacturing system, which will be used to run the East London plant, was installed on HP9000 K250 hardware supplied by Computer Configurations.
Leoni Wiring Systems (East London) will produce the complete wiring harness for the model W203 C-class Mercedes Benz for Daimler-Chrysler RSA on a JIT - Just-in-Time - supply basis.
Says Leonische`s IT specialist, Nardus Bothma: "The HP-based systems support a JIT materials-planning operation, making uptime critical.
"All Leoni plants around the world are connected and share information regarding stock, production and materials requirement planning. This ensures optimum stock availability and reduces overheads associated with excessive inventory."
Roger Sutton of Computer Networks` Roger Sutton says the collaboration between his company and Computer Configurations was vital in securing Leoni`s business:
"Leoni is one of the larger manufacturers of harnesses in Germany, so when the company decided on a new venture in East London, they expected service of an international standard.
"We collaborated with Computer Configurations to ship and install the unit with minimum disruption and in accordance with the international standard set by Leoni AG."
