The Peninsula Beverage Company has implemented Lotus Notes and Domino to ensure group-wide communications on a national basis.
Tom Kallis, IS manager at Peninsula Beverage Company, says that the primary reason for adopting the Lotus collaborative messaging platform was to enable communications throughout the group.
"Prior to our use of Notes and Domino we were relying on the Adidas method of communication. Any time we wanted to get documents or memos to other staff it involved picking up the document and getting it sent over to the recipient," he says recalling the days when surface mail dominated company communications.
Since the implementation, the company has also begun using a number of the other value-added features found in the application. Calendaring and scheduling as well as databases for internal access have also been created.
According to Kallis, these take the form of the Notes ISO Achiever for application development, HR and employee contact details. "Our telephone lists are now centralised. Getting hold of someone is no longer a laborious process. It`s just `click, search` and you get the information you need, when you need it," he says.
To date, the Peninsula Beverage Company has some 330 seats of Notes accessed by users at four branches around the country.
The company is also a user of the Lotus SmartSuite office productivity application. It`s used primarily for the 123 spreadsheet application and Kallis says there are no plans to drop the suite and make use of a competitive product.
Tjaart van der Walt, senior consultant, Axiom Systems Africa, the Lotus Business Partner responsible for the implementation and training, says that the company has taken a major step forward to meet its communications objectives. "The overall plan was to move away from using `stiffies` and paper-based documentation that had slowed down the internal communnications process and I believe the company has achieved this goal," he concludes
