The US Defence Department has awarded a $40 million contract to information storage company, EMC, as part of a large-scale project to modernise its IT infrastructure.
EMC`s networked storage, business continuity and open management software has been purchased for the Pentagon Renovation Office (Penren), which supports multiple agencies within the Pentagon.
Penren says it intends to build on the Pentagon`s existing infrastructure of EMC networked storage and improve its information lifecycle management strategy to lower costs and improve data availability.
In a separate $4.3 million deal, Penren is to use Legato Software`s business continuity solutions for automated monitoring of critical applications.
"Business continuity and information lifecycle management are essential to the secure future of our information infrastructure," says Michael Sullivan, Penren program manager. "With 200% storage growth in certain operations, we are helping to manage a complex environment that includes thousands of data ports and hundreds of servers running on multiple operating systems."
