Pentaho updates suite
business intelligence (BI) suite and analytics software, The H Open reports.
Available both as a Community Edition and a commercial Enterprise Edition, the update includes "major" data analysis performance, scalability and reliability improvements, as well as support for distributed in-memory caching systems.
According to Market Watch, this release provides the benefits of an in-memory solution without the limitations of an in-memory only architecture. Now, business users experience in-memory performance while IT gets a sound, scalable and manageable analytics platform built on proven data warehousing and BI best practices.
In-memory caching support in Pentaho can substantially improve performance, scalability and availability, CMS Wire says. In-memory caching allows applications to gain access to data from RAM instead of reading from the disk. This change reduces the load on the database and eliminates the expensive - in terms of time and resources consumed - physical read from the database.
The use of in-memory caching is common in Web applications that have high availability requirements and must serve large numbers of users. Sites such as Amazon, Facebook and Yahoo all have sophisticated caching strategies. Now, in-memory caching is being increasingly applied to data applications that have their own challenging performance needs.
