PeopleSoft delivers pure Internet applications for mobile commerce

PeopleSoft, a global provider of eBusiness applications, has announced its pure internet application for mobile commerce, which offers customers, salespeople, and field service professionals access to critical business information and transactions anywhere, and at anytime.

According to Jan Coetzee, MD of PeopleSoft South Africa, PeopleSoft Mobile applications leverage PeopleSoft`s pure internet architecture, which provides a mobile capability for extending enterprise applications to the wireless web.

PeopleSoft Mobile applications are part of PeopleSoft`s new collection of collaborative applications. The company recently released 60 new eBusiness applications in addition to PeopleSoft 8, its flagship line of Human Resources Management, Supply Chain Management, and Financial applications.

"PeopleSoft is the only eBusiness company that offers a pure internet platform for mobile commerce," says Jan Coetzee, "Its server-centric, browser-based architecture offers a rapid and cost effective path to mCommerce and increased competitiveness."

The PeopleSoft mobile applications include PeopleSoft Mobile Store as well as PeopleSoft Mobile Directory. "PeopleSoft Mobile Store is a wireless mCommerce solution that gives mobile professionals real-time access to order information," continues Coetzee. "With PeopleSoft Mobile Store, customers and field representatives can obtain vital information anytime and anywhere by using a web-ready wireless phone."

Mobile Store allows sales representatives to see up-to-date order information for each of their customers.

They can quickly access the status, quantity, price and shipment information about a product. Orders can be located easily by entering search information such as order number, date range, product ID, PO number and status.

Cybex, a physical fitness equipment manufacturer, recently implemented Mobile Store in a day. Bryan Lyman, eCommerce manager at Cybex offers the following comment: "PeopleSoft eStore`s wireless functionality has extended our supply chain to the fitness channel. With wireless access to customer and order information we are now able to market, sell, and build customer relationships in real-time 3/4 this is what it means to be a true eBusiness." PeopleSoft Mobile Directory provides real-time, virtually instant access to directory information, including employee names and addresses. "This allows Mobile professionals to work more effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers. In addition, people can save time since they do not have to re-enter or locally maintain directory information stored on the enterprise server. The directory can be secured for internal employee use, or for public customer use," adds Coetzee. PeopleSoft Internet Architecture

Unlike competitive offerings, which require an additional layer of software to provide wireless functionality, PeopleSoft`s server-centric architecture is designed for zero-client operation. PeopleSoft eBusiness applications can be accessed from any wireless device supporting a web browser, including personal digital assistants and internet appliances. In addition, the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture offers native support for wireless extensions to PeopleSoft enterprise applications. The PeopleSoft Internet Architecture allows customers to develop wireless applications for devices that support minibrowsers for handheld devices, including mobile phones, interactive pagers, and personal digital assistants.

"Customers can take full advantage of their enterprise application environment, including native access to more than 14,000 transactions; seamless re-use of existing business logic; enterprise scalability, fault tolerance, and security; open integration; and multi-language capabilities," concludes Coetzee.
