PeopleSoft embeds multi-language search engine

PeopleSoft has announced that it has partnered with Verity, a provider of knowledge retrieval solutions, to embed knowledge retrieval functionality in PeopleSoft 8.

Jan Coetzee, MD of PeopleSoft SA, comments that Verity`s technology will enable PeopleSoft 8 customers to search the web in a variety of languages to find crucial information they need. "PeopleSoft 8," he clarifies, "is the recently launched generation of pure Internet, best-in-class eBusiness applications, that enable the deployment of enterprise applications using a thin HTML client and XML based-integration."

He explains that this search capability is possible as PeopleSoft has embedded Verity technology in all PeopleSoft 8 eBusiness applications. "Verity technology uses a combination of full text, metadata and knowledge-based methods to index and retrieve textual information stored in a variety of formats across corporate Intranets and the Internet. This enables the relevant ranking and organisation of selected information, allowing users to filter and evaluate information personalised to their specific needs and interests." Thus, continues Coetzee, the technology helps customers to automatically analyse and intelligently refine their web-based searches.

"Furthermore," he adds, "it is scalable, available around-the-clock and has high-performance throughput for thousands of users searching over tens of millions of documents with sub-second responses."

Coetzee attributes the relevance of the partnership in the e-business market to these industry-leading offerings, "PeopleSoft 8 is developed on the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, which allows customers to access PeopleSoft applications from any platform supporting a web browser, and cost effectively integrate PeopleSoft solutions with third-party software, and Verity provides access to information from and with any language, entrenched by a proven track record and knowledge base in its industry."

"Unlike competitive companies," he continues, "Verity technology has a strong support of Asian languages, being the only provider that supports complex Asian languages such as Chinese and Japanese." Customers can use Verity`s "language locales," to easily localise applications, as it offers language locales in Western European and Asian languages, including Bokmal, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norsk, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Sevenska for Western European languages and Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional), Japanese and Korean for Asian languages.

Verity`s president Anthony Bettencourt, is pleased that PeopleSoft selected Verity`s proven search and linguistic technology to power all applications developed on the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture platform, that as he confirms, makes it the first major eBusiness vendor to embed search functionality into its core functionality.
