PeopleSoft launches PeopleSoft 8

A new generation of pure Internet eBusiness applications
Johannesburg, , 12 Jul 2000

PeopleSoft, the e-business solutions provider, is launching PeopleSoft 8, a new generation of pure , best-in-class eBusiness applications offering browser-based access and open integration across enterprise boundaries, at an event in New York today.

Jan Coetzee, managing director of PeopleSoft SA, explains the significance of the rewritten application, "PeopleSoft 8 is completely reworked for the Internet, as a full set of best-in-class applications to deliver easy access and open integration, that offer cost and management savings, advantageous to anybody in the e-business market."

"It is powered by the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, the industry`s most open and scalable eBusiness platform based on HTML and XML," continues Coetzee. "The server-centric architecture significantly decreases cost by completely eliminating the need for on the computing device other than a standard Internet browser." He says that PeopleSoft 8 eBusiness applications are accessible via phone lines and devices, have the look and ease-of-use of popular web sites, and integrate quickly and cost-effectively with third-party software.

According to him, the powerful XML-based open integration capabilities of the new application suite allow organisations to seamlessly combine PeopleSoft applications, such as CRM and Supply Chain management, as well as third-party applications, to create a tightly integrated enterprise. Companies will be able to track orders from the point of contact with customers 3/4 whether via phone, fax, email, or the web 3/4 through order management, procurement, and fulfilment to service execution.

The suite of applications includes PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management, Human Resource Management (HRMS), Financials, and Professional Services Automation (PSA), as well as other industry-specific solutions. In addition, PeopleSoft announced availability of 59 newly developed eBusiness applications that enable collaboration and commerce with customers, employees and suppliers.

Craig Conway, president and CEO of PeopleSoft, says "PeopleSoft 8 is an entirely new generation of eBusiness applications, and represents PeopleSoft`s emergence as an Internet company." In his opinion PeopleSoft is the first enterprise application vendor to deliver a pure Internet solution.

More than 200 media, analysts, customers and industry leaders from around the world are attending the launch event at the historic Hudson Theater on Broadway. "This," believes Coetzee, "is expressive of the significant relevance of the new release. He concludes, "PeopleSoft`s new generation of pure Internet eBusiness applications build on PeopleSoft`s best-in-class client/server functionality, and the company`s deep understanding of business processes and global operations, to effectively nudge serious e-businesses to the peak of the competitive global industry."
