Peregrine, Gartner offer software asset management advice in Webcast

Johannesburg, 25 Aug 2005

In an on-demand Webcast featuring Gartner industry analyst Jack Heine, asset and service management software provider Peregrine has offered pragmatic advice to help global organisations better manage software licences, reduce compliance risks, improve infrastructure security and lower support costs.

Software audits have created an unpredictable exposure to risk, says Inana Nkanza, MD of iLAYO Software Solutions, the local Peregrine distributor.

"Organisations face multimillion-rand penalties - not to mention considerable brand erosion - if they are out of line with compliance. In a recent survey conducted by Peregrine, 70% of respondents said they plan to implement a software asset management program in the near future. Of that number, 50% plan to do so within the next three months because of compliance requirements and budgetary reasons. While companies understand the risks associated with compliance, at this point the majority of companies are ill equipped."

During the on-demand Webcast, Gartner`s Jack Heine reviewed current market trends and outlined best practices that organisations can implement.

Nkanza says the Webcast explains how a complete lifecycle asset management initiative using Peregrine`s industry-leading AssetCenter software can leverage existing technology investments to help companies prepare for audits and improve their bottom line. The on-demand Webcast is currently available at: www.peregrine.com/webcast/control-costs.

"By investing 3% to 5% of software budgets on software asset management solutions, global organisations can save millions of rands, mitigate risk, negotiate better pricing and improve the return on their existing software investments," says Nkanza. "Peregrine`s lifecycle asset management solutions can help evolve software asset management practices to create high-performance IT organisations."
