Peregrine Systems, Inc, the provider of infrastructure management solutions represented locally by CCH Enterprise Solutions, has agreed to acquire Canadian-based Loran Technologies, a leading provider of network discovery and management solutions, for around $78 million.
The two companies have been in an investment and technology OEM relationship since June 1999. The acquisition has evolved from this strategic partnership following Peregrine`s successful introduction of InfraTools Network Discovery, a network management technology, in the past few quarters.

As companies increasingly rely on networks for e-business and other functions, there has been increased pressure on network infrastructure and bandwidth, accompanied by rising demand for improved network management systems to increase availability. Loran`s network management solutions complement Peregrine`s e-business solutions by providing realtime network health information, allowing corporations proactively to discover and identify root-cause network problems.
With integration already complete with Peregrine`s ServiceCenter and AssetCenter, the network appliance provides the data to fully automate critical infrastructure management business processes.
InfraTools Network Discovery functions by monitoring traffic statistics to discover assets connected to a corporate network, reducing the time and staff required to set up the system and enter required data, as well as manage and troubleshoot the network.
Using this patented technology, companies can discover network assets without deploying agent technology and develop a fully connected graphical map of the network. This port-to-port connection level map allows users to visualise where faults may occur, their potential impact and the best action to take to resolve problems and deal with change.
