Peregrine Systems has entered into a relationship with Loran Technologies in which Peregrine will OEM Loran`s inventory management technology, including Loran`s discovery and mapping technology.
Loran`s reality-based technology discovers and continually monitors networked resources and their data flow, providing the only automated, detailed understanding of both devices and their connectivity. This automation provides the user with easier and accurate inventory management. "The Loran technology is best-of-breed in providing accurate and reliable network inventory," says Allen Lewis, MD of Software Futures` systems management business unit. Software Futures represents Peregrine in South Africa. "Customers will now be able to manage, not only their physical network resources, but also how data flows through those resources, allowing them to manage their infrastructure more efficiently."
In addition to the high level of automation in Loran`s technology, it also builds a rule base for gathering asset information, containing details on thousands of networked resource types. As new types of resources are introduced to the networked environment, Loran`s technology automatically builds additional asset definitions without user intervention.
"Loran`s strengths in identifying networked resources within a reliable topology are both distinctive and innovative," says Dennis Drogseth, director, Enterprise Management Associates, a management consulting and industry analyst firm. "It should provide a powerful complement to Peregrine Systems` growing capabilities in the enterprise service desk. Organisations seeking a clear picture of their networked resources in a dynamic environment should profit from this combination."
Peregrine Systems will use Loran`s technology to feed inventory information to both the Peregrine Systems ServiceCenter and AssetCenter product lines.
