Perfection in racing

Racing fans, prepare to start your engines as Burnout 3: Take Down is one of the best and most addictive vehicle racing titles to hit our shores in a long time.

I recently received Burnout3: Take Down and must admit that I was the most excited I have been about getting a game in a long time.

A week later, the control had to be pried from my hand so I could eventually get some sleep. This has to be one of the most addictive games in my collection to date.

Stunning graphics with realistic reflection maps, breathtaking crashes and heart-pounding non-stop action - that is what Burnout 3 is all about. I have never played a game where the feeling of speed came across quite so well.

The name of the game is boost, and you can earn additional boost by various methods, such as tailgating or grinding your opponents, riding on the wrong side of the road or near misses with other cars. You can also steal boost by taking your opponent out.

Like any racing game you earn trophies and medals. Burnout does this and more... like keeping track of the number of opponents you have taken off the road, the number of Burnout points you have earned by driving completely out of control, and the amount of cash earned in all the crash mode events you have taken part in.

In the game you can either race against the clock, do a crash mode (where you get cash for the damage you do), or my favourite, road rage, where your goal is to take out as many opponents as you can until your car cannot take anymore punishment.

A new addition is Aftertouch, where if you crash, you can still guide your wreck to take out your opponents, earning you big points. As you go through the game and earn cash and burnout points, you also unlock better vehicles.

The split-screen multiplayer is another great way to take out your friends, by racing alone or have up to four other opponents.

With artists like Funeral For A Friend, Finger Eleven, New-Found Glory and many more, the soundtrack alone will leave you wanting to put your foot to the floor and cause as much damage as possible.

So, this speed demon gives Burnout 3 TWO thumbs up (and even a foot).
