Local information security and risk management start-up Performanta has been recognised with an International Technical Excellence and Expertise award by Websense, a global unified content security vendor.
Guy Golan, group CEO of Performanta, said the prestigious award was given to the company at the end of January, when the start-up competed against more than 400 resellers from around the world during the Websense Partner Awards.
According to Golan, Performanta was awarded because it was able to provide massive information security deployments to big brands such as Tesco and showed “technical excellence” across Websense's four key products.
“It means that Websense has identified us as a global information security expert across the field. The award gives a message to the world that SA is on the map in terms of providing world-class information security,” Golan noted.
Performanta has been operating since April 2010 and currently has round 50 employees. Golan points out that the company's growth is not seasonal, but is part of a bigger and long-term journey.
Performanta has identified Western and Northern European markets as opportunities for growth. Golan said the Bank of Scotland specifically asked for South African skills during a security installation, identifying South African security companies as being driven, hard-working and understanding of security requirements.
Performanta has set out African expansion plans for the second half of 2012 as well as 2013. “We have created alliances with local African partners and will look to expand our footprint into key African countries.
“However, our expansion plan is far more targeted towards Europe. And we are talking about opening an official office there, because the European market is pushing us, and we've found a massive gap in the market in terms of how information security is managed.”
