On 15 June, Gauteng drivers will be able to legally personalise their cars` registration plates. In what appears to be a first, a Johannesburg-based company - Plates - has established itself as a central hub where registration numbers can be purchased or traded either online or via its physical offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban.
Information and application forms are available at the company`s Web site (www.plates.co.za). Once the application is made, Plates then fulfils the entire registration process on behalf of the customer from the submission of official documentation to the delivery and placement of the personalised registration number (PRN) plates and licence disc on the customer`s vehicle. Turnaround time for Cape Town customers is 24 hours.
Reportedly 90% of Plates` applications are processed online and customers with Internet access are routinely referred to the Web site. "Our online strategy has been the key to our success," says Plates MD Barry Berman. "Through our Web site we offer our customers a convenient, easy to use service that is tried and tested."
Berman is very positive about the company`s future prospects. "The initial response from Gauteng has been overwhelming, and with a motoring population of over four million, we expect the site traffic to increase exponentially over the next few months."
Aside from the individual consumer market, Plates confirms PRNs have attracted widespread interest from the business sector.
