Peter Watt has cut all ties to Business Connexion (BCX), after he resigned as non-executive director on its board last week.

Watt served as CEO of BCX since early 2003 and resigned last year, handing the reins to Benjamin Mophatlane, who was at the time deputy CEO.

His resignation as the business head came as a surprise to many industry spectators, because the company was in the process of trying to resolve trouble around its possible sale to Telkom.

“Although I intended to hand over the reins only after we had clarity on the Telkom deal, the board and I made a strategic decision to coincide my departure with the end of the financial year,” Watt said at the time.

In a SENS announcement on Watt's resignation as non-executive director, BCX chairman Tony Ruiters thanked him for his contribution over the years as a subsidiary company director, group CEO and then non-executive director.

"BCX has truly benefited from Peter's contribution over the years and his wealth of experience of BCX and the industry will be missed. We wish Peter well in his future endeavours,” he said.

Watt currently serves as independent non-executive chairman of JSE-listed Dialogue Group.

He has a long history in the ICT industry, serving as deputy chairman of the Altron Group from 1993 to 1997. He was then CEO of Dorbyl Automotive Technologies until 1999, when he was appointed CEO of Comparex Africa and a director of Comparex Holdings. Following the disposal of the European operations of Comparex, he became CEO of Comparex Group, which subsequently merged with BCX.

Watt is a founder member of the National Economic Forum and Business SA, as well as a former member of the Presidential National Commission for ICT.
