Aventis South Africa, the local arm of international pharmaceuticals company Aventis, has launched its Web site with the help of VWV Interactive. The site, at
www.aventis.co.za
, features information serving the needs of doctors and patients.
"The site is divided into two areas, a public Web site, offering information around the main diseases for which Aventis offers products, and an extranet that serves doctors," says Jacqui Maroun, VWV strategist for Aventis.
"The public section is not, due to legal constraints, able to sell the drugs, but it can help patients to better understand their medical condition. The doctor`s section offers detailed drug information and package inserts."
The site encourages use of the self-medication section "to find out about medication that you can buy over-the-counter at a pharmacy, to treat common ailments or improve your general health".
Aventis Pharma in SA was formed this year as the result of the merger of Hoechst Marion Roussel and Rh^one-Poulenc Rorer SA. The company employs approximately 600 people countrywide and has its head office in Midrand. It researches and develops medicines in a number of therapeutic areas.
The local site was based on a design developed by Razorfish in the US, and was implemented locally using a ColdFusion application server.
