Dutch electronics giant, Philips, has unveiled an aggressive campaign to promote its range of monitors and LCD projectors. Resellers have the opportunity to win more than R100 000 in prizes, including an Opel Corsa Lite, ten 72cm Philips TVs and 30 VCRs while the popular Hopper LCD projector has been discounted over 20 percent to R19 999.
Rui dos Santos, new business development manager at the company`s local subsidiary, says every order for a Philips monitor placed between now and November gives resellers entry into the final draw. "Using a sliding scale based on monitor size and type, dealers get one entry for every 14-inch monitor sold and as many as fifteen for each 18.1-inch flat panel LCD display moved.
"The more monitors they sell, the more chances they have of winning one of the 41 prizes on offer," he adds.
Entry to the December 7 draw is automatic upon placing orders with one of Philips` two distributors, FSA and SDD. "There is absolutely no other criterion for qualification," he says.
On the LCD projector side, dos Santos says the company`s sales figures have risen a massive 500 percent since the global price-cut earlier this year.
"LCD projectors have followed the typical technology curve of high prices at introduction followed by lower prices as volumes increase, manufacturing processes are fine-tuned and economies of scale begin to kick in," he says. Dos Santos also points out that the typical customer profile is changing as the technology becomes more accessible. "In the beginning it was only companies that could afford video projection devices but nowadays we are seeing people opt for LCD projectors in preference to large-screen television sets that can cost upwards of R50 000."
