South African PC-gamers have a lot to look forward to with the announcement that software re-publisher Phoenix Global Software has secured exclusive distribution rights for Germany-based Deep Silver, perhaps the industry`s most innovative publisher.
According to Phoenix CEO Simon-Campbell Young, Deep Silver - which boasts titles including Singles, Earth 2160, Neuro Hunter and more - has chosen Phoenix owing to its proven distribution capability as well as its innovative republishing model.
"We have established excellent routes to market in SA, both through major retailers as well as online channels."
In 2004 Deep Silver was named the best newcomer of all game publishers by MCV UK, a trade magazine focused on the gaming business. This achievement was largely due to its Singles: Flirt Up Your Life title, which introduced a new concept to gaming with an interactive scenario where characters controlled by the player can develop highly idiosyncratic and unique relationships.
"Singles 2: Triple Trouble is following on the success of Flirt Up Your Life with a release date scheduled for this May, while additional titles in the product pipeline include Earth 2160, X^2: The Return, and Neuro Hunter," says Campbell-Young.
Earth 2160 is the continuation of the Earth saga started in Earth 2140 and Earth 2150. Only a few thousand humans managed to escape from Earth before its collapse in 2150 AD. They spent the next few years terra-forming the red planet, developing new technologies and rebuilding civilisation - but in the year 2160 something happens that could threaten their existence. South African games enthusiasts can find out what happens when the game is released in June. Meanwhile, Neuro Hunter is a 3D first person role-playing game with fast, detailed and atmospheric graphics. Management of the sinister Johnston Biotek Inc hires a man they call Hunter to restore order when dark secrets escape and the situation threatens to get out of hand. Find out how Hunter fares with the release of the game this April.
Scheduled for release in the same month, gamers can take to the universe in a starship in space simulator game X^2: The Return, which delivers an immersive gaming experience with a variety of missions, weapon systems and space sectors as well as a new storyline which can be explored parallel to the main arc of its predecessor, X^2.
"These and other titles that Deep Silver is working on, demonstrate its ability to deliver games that break free of the limitations of traditional publishers. We believe the gaming community will be as enthusiastic in playing them as we are in bringing them to market," concludes Campbell-Young.
