Phoenix Software brings value-added software publishing to SA

Johannesburg, 20 Jun 2003

BVRP Software Group has launched Avanquest Global Software Publishing, a network of value-added software publishers that maximises sales across multiple channels and geographic regions.

Avanquest is a network of BVRP subsidiaries and partners that combines powerful retail relationships, a wide range of value-added services and a local presence in territories registering over 80% of the world`s total packaged software sales.

For the first time, software developers anywhere in the world will have one source capable of translating, localising, packaging, marketing, selling and providing customer support for software through multiple distribution channels throughout North America and Western Europe, as well as in Australia and SA. Several additional territories and major markets around the world will be announced in the near future.

"For most developers, penetrating foreign markets is a slow, expensive and risky proposition, in large part because each country`s republishers and resellers want to negotiate unique contracts," says Robert Hall, country manager of Phoenix Software. "Avanquest brings together the whole localisation and distribution process in one contract, which makes market penetration much faster and less costly."

Avanquest`s member companies, of which Phoenix is the only one in SA, are developers and publishers with long histories of doing business in their local markets. They cover every major distribution channel, including over 15 000 retail outlets worldwide. Phoenix is the exclusive publisher and distributor of numerous software titles in the sub-Saharan region.

With an average of nearly 20 years` experience in software development and sales, BVRP and its subsidiaries and partners provide Avanquest Global Publishing with long-established relationships in retail, enterprise, OEM and other distribution channels throughout its territories. Avanquest also provides clients with access to its proprietary e-commerce platform, extending their reach to every corner of the world.

Its combined background in development and publishing also allows Avanquest to offer the broadest possible spectrum of value-added services, including:

* Pre-testing and debugging of software;

* Package design and printing;

* Localisation of products, packaging and documentation in over 25 languages;

* Adaptation and execution of marketing initiatives;

* Access to distribution channels;

* Leveraging of retailer relationships;

* Supply chain management; and

* Localised customer support and technical support services.

"Despite the growing success of Internet as a tool to sell and promote software, retail outlets are still responsible of the majority of software sales," says Bruno Vanryb, BVRP Software Group founder and chairman.

"Therefore most of the new titles never reach the retail market due to cost and structural barriers. A publishing partner like Avanquest is the only solution for developers who want to reach a far wider base of potential customers than with the Internet alone.

"We believe that by combining our deep, broad distribution channels with far-reaching geographic scope, in-depth local knowledge in each of our markets, and a relevant skill set derived from our own background as developers, we give software companies a better way to reach the world."
