Pick `n Pay Radio take to the waves

The eighteen months of planning by Pick `n Pay and the combined forces of Adsat, Empirical and AdvanceNet will come to fruition on Monday 23 October when the voice of Yolande Giyose will launch Pick `n Pay`s new National Retail Radio.

Pick `n Pay Radio will broadcast to 142 Pick `n Pay Supermarkets and Family stores in 5 different regions. Utilising DCS (Digital Commercial System) software provided by Empirical Systems; Pick `n Pay Radio will have the unique ability to "personalise" its delivery to each region. " The DJ will be able to ensure that advertisements and fillers that the customer hears in the store will be targeted to that particular region," says Andrew Brookes of Empirical " What the customer hears in Natal will be very different to what a customer in the Northern Regions will hear."

There are very clear requirements for systems that control radio, and AdvanceNet and Empirical took the step of placing a CompaqProliant ML 370 server running Novell to handle the robustness required for the operating environment. Previous installations - utilising Compaq hardware with a smart array controller and hot swappable drives - with other successful closed circuit radio stations, further motivated the decision to install hardware that could maintain maximum uptime. " Compaq equipment has proven itself in this arena before; making it our first choice for the Pick `n Pay Radio Project" - says Patrick Katzenellenbogen from AdvanceNet.

Pick `n Pay are looking forward to having a state of the art Radio Station that is in pace with technology, along with dynamic presenters; carefully selected music that matches the shopping experience and a personalised approach.
