Pick Systems Africa announces new commitment to channel partners

Johannesburg, 15 Jul 1998

Pick Systems Africa, the pioneering supplier of multi-dimensional database management systems (MDBMS), has made a number of new support services available to its value added resellers. So says Pick Systems Africa`s Sales Director, Adrian Oxborrow.

For an annual subscription fee of R2000, a `directVAR` will qualify for a preferential discount structure, access to Pick Systems` co-operative marketing programme, regular training courses at preferential rates, access to Pick Systems` international support system on the Internet, as well as free quarterly update sessions run by senior Pick Systems personnel from around the world.

`IndirectVARs` or resellers whose volumes don`t justify a subscription to the programme, will be obliged to order and receive support from one of the directVARs.

Oxborrow says VARs are central to Pick Systems` marketing strategy. `Our business has traditionally been done through VARs. We have approximately 40 dedicated resellers in South Africa that have developed specialised solutions based on Pick Systems` database.

`We will continue to grow this channel and add to their capabilities by bringing in `best of breed` mid-complexity systems and applications from Europe and the USA.

`We want to continue to support these VARs while encouraging smaller resellers to increase their activity in the Pick Systems market,` says Oxborrow.

The world-wide Pick market is worth $3bn annually. Pick`s resellers have developed over 2000 applications world-wide, and the user base in South Africa is currently at approximately 2000.

Fully ODBC and SQL compliant, the Pick D3 database runs on a variety of Unix and Windows NT platforms. Web-enablement of any Pick-based application is now possible with FlashConnect, and Pick is currently developing a component-based architecture that will make it possible for a solutions provider to re-engineer a character-based application into a modern graphically oriented system.
