Pick Systems announces availability of One-Up database reporting, query and analysis tool

Johannesburg, 01 Nov 1999

Pick Systems Africa, a developer of multi-user, multi-value database management system (DBMS) software, today announced a marketing agreement with FarSight Technologies whereby it will distribute the company`s One Up software, a low-cost intuitive management reporting, database query and analysis tool.

Designed specifically for business users who need immediate access to critical , One-Up provides rapid and easy access to corporate legacy databases at a fraction of the cost of competitive products.

"Rapid access to mission critical is a universal need," said Adrian Oxborrow, managing director of Pick Systems Africa. "Because most existing products require knowledge of database structure, analysts are required to produce reports for management. We developed One Up to give non-technical users and even senior managers the ability to generate tabular and graphical reports themselves based on their relevant data without having to understand database technology."

The combination of One Up with Pick Systems` robust D3 DBMS provides users with the ability to extract the information they need, when they need it, quickly and easily. More importantly, each `View` can be saved and re-used, and it always brings up the latest data available in the database."

"By offering the One Up solution, we are providing our value-added resellers with yet another new revenue opportunity for both new and existing customers," continued Oxborrow.

"Comparable solutions were traditionally reserved for large enterprises due to the high cost. One Up`s attractive price and powerful feature set make it ideal for small and medium-sized businesses. This new addition to our product portfolio is yet another example of our commitment to being a one-stop shop for our channel partners." - One Up Overview One Up provides direct, rapid user access to large relational databases, including Pick Systems` D3 DBMS. It is priced considerably lower than competitive products, yet it still provides about 80 percent of the functionality.

The product features a very intuitive user interface that is designed to be easy to understand and use by both technical and non-technical business managers, analysts and senior executives. Technical users can create data universe, or "views," which can be used by analysts and managers to create their own reports without having to understand the underlying complexity of the data or databases. In addition, users do not need to know which of several databases their particular data is stored on. One Up also supports online access to multiple databases, even if those databases are on different computers and stored in different database products.

One Up can generate columns, crosstabs, charts, maps and detailed reports using a single drag-and-drop interface. Users can define their own drill-down paths through their data, save those views, and then reuse the stored templates to retrieve and display the latest data available in the database, a key time-saving feature. Since it is ODBC-compliant, it also supports other database servers such as IBM`s DB/2 and its new Universal Data Base (UDB), Oracle, Sybase, Informix and Microsoft SQL Server, among others.
