PICK`s acquisition of General Automation`s database software product finalised

PICK Systems, a leading developer of multi-user, multi-value database management system (DBMS) software, today announced that it has completed the first strategic step to re-establishing itself as the leader in multidimensional database management system providers in the new economy.

"We are excited to announce to our business partners and customers that PICK`s acquisition of General Automation`s database software products has been finalised. With the completion of this significant transaction, PICK has acquired GA`s complete line of DBMS products. All future sales and support services will now be operated by PICK Systems," says Adrian Oxborrow, managing director, Pick Systems Africa.

The terms of the purchase are a $2.5 million initial cash payment, a $500,000 note due on December 31, 2000, and revenue sharing for the next two years.

General Automation will concentrate resources on its new highly regarded, platform independent eBusiness software solutions. GA eXpress, a business unit of General Automation, can now aggressively move forward with its ePath family of proprietary products and services to initially provide MultiValue database users with the ability to leverage the Internet for participation in eBusiness and eSupply chain mandates - particularly through market exchanges and hubs - with suppliers, vendors, partners and customers.

"We have a new focus: eBusiness. There is a real back-end data crisis that exists for businesses when trying to access legacy data to participate in and complete eCommerce transactions," said Jane M. Christie, chairman, president and CEO, General Automation. "We are working with some of the world`s leading companies to help them easily access data to make it Web accessible."

"Our goal with this acquisition is to continue to provide a very high level of support and growing technology to former GA clients as well as our own existing clients," adds Oxborrow. "As we move forward, we are totally committed to extending our reach and presence, as well as dedicated to continuing to provide superior products relevant to the PICK community and beyond."

"We know that PICK`s software technologies combined with our business partners` vertical market applications and services are an invaluable asset to offer end-users. We are proud to have former GA customers on board and look forward to a long and rewarding relationship," concludes Oxborrow.
