Pilot's TallOrder integration uses low-cost iPod Touch or iPad mini devices to facilitate item upsell, enhance order speed, improve customer service and maximise table turn. The service has been rolled out to select sites in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Sydney, with immediate positive feedback.
Sites can significantly reduce labour costs by using waiters to proactively manage sections, with runners controlling order fulfilment. TallOrder's flexibility allows item images, nutritional information, recipes and other key data to be displayed if required. With biometric waiter authentication to each device, Pilot's securities and controls remain in place.
By integrating with Pilot's PoS system, TallOrder preserves the PoS investment. Waiters stay focused on serving the customer, and orders get placed directly to the Pilot POS system from the table. This saves time and improves accuracy. With a faster order process, waiters have more time to interact with customers, ensuring maximum item upsell.
Says Glenn Miller, Pilot Software MD: "With no change to the existing PoS system, TallOrder mobile waiter ordering is the obvious choice. Mobile units simply become an extension of the current PoS, with clear merchant and end-user benefits. Some PoS vendors offer standalone apps for mobile service, but our customers want integration - they want to manage one system and not have to retrain staff."
Pilot's TallOrder mobile integration is suitable for both franchise and independent sites. In a franchise environment, head office has full control over menu content and prices. All local restaurants benefit from group supported languages and detailed information such as nutritional analysis. As all transactions are stored on TallOrder's cloud servers, head offices have access to real-time, consolidated sales and performance information from all sites.
Local restaurants manage only the operational aspects such as SQ pricing, specials when overstocked, or out-of-stock situations.
According to Dana Buys, TallOrder co-founder and CEO: "Restaurant PoS integration is a complex process that involves strict real-time operation - no one wants their order an hour late! Synchronisation with the PoS menu structures and order processes is paramount. It's easy to understand why integration is the preferred option, as replacing systems comes with a lot of risk, time and expense. TallOrder was designed from the start to support deep integration to Pilot's PoS. Adding TallOrder to an existing Pilot PoS environment is a relatively low-cost and low-risk project, as the TallOrder service is provided month-to-month at per-waiter or even per-shift billing."
Historically, most restaurant waiters relied on memory or note pads to record orders. Menus have basic information about the items on offer, generally in one language. There is no way of knowing how other clients have rated products, and what you order may be very different from what you receive. A huge amount of time is wasted scurrying between tables, PoS stations, and the kitchen and bar. Attracting waiter attention is a challenge because of this, resulting in lost orders and frustrated clients.
The Pilot/TallOrder collaboration addresses all of these concerns.
