Johannesburg, 30 Oct 2007

pilotfish digital co-founder and KZN IT person of the year will be running the New York Marathon on Sunday in order to raise funds for the HIV and Aids Orphan Charity, Thokomala.

Thokomala`s innovative and unique model gives children orphaned by HIV and AIDS a better life, free from the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV infection.

At the same time, Thokomala provides much needed support to counteract the emotional and social scars caused by losing one`s parents.

Thokomala is holistic and unique. The organisation provides not only shelter, food and care but also the love and nurturing of a normal family environment essential to raise children so they become healthy and emotionally sound adults. The Thokomala family community homes are a new home to six children and a loving foster mother.

The premier event for road runners, the ING New York City Marathon is one of the world`s great road races, drawing more than 90 000 applicants. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $600 000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel in the media capital of the world before two million cheering spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers.

As any one of the more than 700 000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the great thrills of a lifetime.

For more information on Thokomala, or if you would like to make a donation, please visit the Web site: www.thokomala.org.za or contact Antje Hockly: Antje.Hockly@unilever.com.
