Pilot's new WinPos software to challenge traditional cash tills in retail

Pilot Software, a member of the JSE-listed Softline Group, recently launched a new point-of-sale and admin software application, called WinPos Millenium, aimed at the small to medium-sized retailer needing a cost-effective solution to all store activities.

WinPos Millenium challenges the traditional till-based system by bringing to market an inexpensive, feature-rich, Windows-based PC system that runs on a standard Pentium PC.

The software application handles the entire sales transaction, from punching up a sale, cashing up, backroom control and precise ordering, right through to income statements. Ideal for businesses that do not require complex accounting packages, WinPos also exports smoothly to Pastel Accounting.

Pilot Software has extensive experience in the point-of-sale market with its locally developed Pilot POS being the leading application in the hospitality industry.

Kevan McQuade, MD of Pilot, comments: "Over four years ago we developed the basics of WinPos. Since then, the application has grown legs of its own, and more recently, our development team has once again focused on the application to create a fully-fledged POS and admin system for the retail industry that is affordable and very easy to use within the Windows environment. Our experience in the demanding hospitality industry has allowed us to incorporate practical user-friendly features into WinPos."

"We are targeting all Tier 3 and 4 retail outlets countrywide, ranging from fast food establishments, superettes, hardware, CD, video, shoe, sports, leisure and clothing stores.

An out-the-box version of WinPos is available at R2 500 per terminal (and R1 000 thereafter), as well as a turnkey solution, including hardware, software, peripherals and support."

Some of the advanced features of WinPos include support of multi-user terminals, tracking of staff sales, dispatch printing to remote destinations, multiple tax rates with tax reports, unlimited number of stock items and real-time stock availability report. In addition, WinPos allows remote head office and branch real-time communication, whether it be downloading sales figures on a daily basis, or product and price changes. The software accommodates multiple possible modes of data input, ranging from manual, to scales and barcode readings. To assist the user, WinPos includes an alpha-numeric item search feature.

Pilot has the infrastructure to offer retail users of WinPos Millenium around-the-clock support countrywide.
