Pink Software announced today that it would support transfer of documents in the XML format. This would be developed into support for SOAP and would provide a platform for TurboCASH users and developers to add Web services to their offerings to clients.
Philip Copeman, MD of Pink Software, says: "Traditional methods of moving data between accounting packages has been by comma delimited format. This is very limited. The result is that applications have been restricted to small amounts of external transactions.
"Using XML documents, a much richer transport layer can be developed to move data between applications. Simple applications would start by TurboCASH users sharing data remotely across the Internet. That is, a user in Cape Town could be posting his invoices to a peer machine in Johannesburg. This can be achieved without costly online facilities.
"More complex applications would include making an invoice in one application, a purchase note in another. This new technology will enable companies to completely decentralise accounting systems. A new wave of peer-to-peer technologies is now breaking. Pink Software is making its position on the XML and SOAP platform. .Net and J2EE are two competing technologies. We are not yet sure who will be the dominant players, but XML and SOAP are sure to be part of it."
XML imports and exports are available immediately in the latest release of TurboCASH. Developers can immediately begin using the TurboCASH plug-in technology to develop add-on products to TurboCASH.
