Pinnacle delivers 'remote` security

Johannesburg, 17 Jan 2006

Pinnacle Micro has announced local availability of the D-Link DCS-5300, which allows users to monitor their homes or offices from a remote location.

The DCS-5300 surveillance system, the newest addition to the Securicam product range, connects to an Ethernet or Fast Ethernet connection to provide video and audio over an intranet or the .

"This Internet camera differs from a conventional PC camera, as it is a standalone device with a built-in CPU and Web server that allows users to access their cameras using Internet Explorer 5.x or above from anywhere in the world," says Tiens Lange, brand manager at Pinnacle Micro.

He explains that the camera has a pan, tilt and zoom function that can be controlled from the Web interface or from the included remote control. Auto pan mode enables the camera to move 270 degrees horizontally and the patrol mode cycles through up to 20 preset positions.

"Further, by signing up with one of the many Dynamic DNS services, users can assign an easy-to-remember name and domain. This allows users to remotely access their cameras without having to remember the IP address, even if it has been changed by their Internet service provider."

Surveillance software is included to allow users to archive streaming video and audio straight to the hard drive, playback video, monitor as many as 16 cameras on a single screen, and set up motion detection to trigger automatic recording, adds Lange.
