Pinnacle Micro lands government contract for its Supermicro servers

Johannesburg, 11 Sep 2008

Pinnacle Micro, the largest listed ICT distributor, has won part of the government's SITA RFT153 tender for the supply of 12 Supermicro server products over six categories, said Francois Lottering, Supermicro product manager at the company.

"Up until now the Supermicro servers were not available for government contracts, as our initial range was primarily aimed at the small business market - so this contract win is a breakthrough for us. We are focusing aggressively on government business now, so we believe this contract will be the first of many," said Lottering.

Lottering said Pinnacle Micro has doubled its share in the local server market since landing the distribution rights for US-based Supermicro in 2006.

While off a low base of 1%, the company says it will continue to grow market share. Pinnacle Micro is better known for its range of Proline desktops and notebooks, and is also a distributor for more than 30 leading product lines such as Canon, Apacer, Lexmark, HP and Dell.

Supermicro, founded in 1993, emphasises superior product design and quality control to produce highly reliable mission-critical servers that maximise price/performance ratios for global customers.
