Broad-based black empowered ICT distributor Pinnacle Micro has landed a breakthrough distribution agreement with Canoa.
The agreement, concluded in early July, sees it becoming a joint master distributor for the entire Canon range of products.
The other master distributor is Canoa, which has been the sole Canon CBS distributor for well over two decades.
Pinnacle Micro is the largest IT company in the JSE Securities Exchange-listed holding company, Pinnacle Technology Holdings Ltd (PTH).
Cobus Erasmus, product manager for Canon at Pinnacle Micro, said the new distribution agreement struck with Canoa is "highly strategic" - and could see the company's overall Canon sales double in the next 12 months.
"Until now Canoa was the only distributor for Canon's CBS range. The new agreement with Canoa gives us access to over 3 000 products in the Canon range, including copiers, large format printers, scanners, imaging and computer equipment."
Erasmus said the only product line his company would not be focusing on is Canon's range of medical equipment.
He said while the company will sell Canon's copier range, the main focus would be to target sales at the government tender market. "We currently don't have a reseller infrastructure in place for copiers. Our strategy will be to target government tenders when it comes to the sale of copiers."
He also pointed out that Canoa would continue to offer support services on the Canon copier range. "That is certainly their area of expertise," he said.
Canoa was appointed as a Canon distributor in 1986 when the previous Canon distributor ceased operations in South Africa. When Canon re-entered the South African economy directly in 1999 Canoa remained on as its sole distributor on the business solution products which included the entire range of digital, colour laser and analogue copiers.
The announcement of Pinnacle Micro as a joint master distributor is, therefore, seen as "a major announcement" for the company, said Erasmus.
