PlanOn unveils BlackBerry print app
PlanOn has unveiled a 'Mobile enhanced print application' for Blackberry, allowing users to print full-page Web pages and any e-mail attachments, reports TMCnet.
“Whether you're a 'road warrior' business traveller who needs to print your boarding pass while racing to the airport, a realtor printing the listing info en route to show a home, or a soccer mom printing the after-school game schedule, our Mobile Enhanced Print service gives you the ultimate in flexibility and convenience," said Doug Verkaik, CEO of PlanOn.
This print application software from PlanOn can also be installed on a server inside the company's firewall as it comes with an enterprise licence option.
Gartner reports printer market drop
Gartner says the global market for printers, copiers and multifunctional products declined by a fifth in the first half of 2009, to 51.3 million units sold, states Computing.co.uk.
The reasons behind the fall were "weak demand as both businesses and consumers reduced spending and the drop in shipments was also impacted by tighter inventory controls in order to minimise inventory levels in the channels," said Gartner senior research analyst Lai-Ling Lam.
The situation was further exacerbated by "shortages of popular low-end inkjets and page printers to home, small businesses, and small and medium businesses,” added Lam.

OKI has always been committed to bringing new products and solutions to the market, which enable the users to better mange their business,' said John Ross, GM of Middle East, India, and North East Africa for OKI Printing Solutions.
