PLDT, trade ministry hold SME seminar

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) SME-Nation recently partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to hold a four-day seminar in Naga City, reports PhilStar.

The primary goal is to introduce SMEs in the Bicol region on how to grow their businesses with the use of PLDT SME-Nation's packages as proper tools for their potential growth and success.

The DTI brought in various business owners from different industries to receive an orientation from PLDT SME-Nation on how IT software and hardware can give their enterprises a boost.

SMEs urged to increase tech use

Jamaica minister of State for Industry, Investment and Commerce, Michael Stern, urges greater use of technology by SMEs, the Jamaica Information Service says.

He states that ICT plays a critical role in improving internal business processes as well as interfacing with various stakeholders.

"We need to focus on the role of information and communication technologies in facilitating SMEs as the world moves towards e-business,” says Stern.

Malay body to form SME taskforce

The SME Association of Malaysia hopes to be part of a taskforce to be set up by the International Trade and Industry ministry to solve issues faced by SMEs, the Star Online states.

“We welcome this taskforce and would like to be a part of it,” says national president Chua Tiam Wee.

“We hope this [task force] will be something along the lines of Pemudah (a high-powered taskforce to address bureaucracy in business-government dealings),” he added.
