PM Ora Software, the development division of Johannesburg-based IT group, PM Tech Holdings, received a boost to its global marketing plans recently with news that it is now an accredited Oracle independent software vendor (ISV).
The ISV accreditation effectively endorses the company`s technical skills in the Oracle environment and its ability to integrate and support its Enterprise Gauge and Enterprise Focus Oracle database monitoring and administration product suite within Oracle environments.
"This is great news which comes at a time when we are expanding our global activities," says Craig Dawson, channel manager at PM Tech.
"While we have an extensive blue-chip user base throughout Africa, it`s always difficult to break into Western markets if you don`t have this accreditation," he says.
"When you`re competing in a field dominated by some pretty hefty global players, you need this `stamp of approval` as the type of company we`re targeting is rarely prepared to take a risk with a non-accredited company - however good the product."
The Enterprise Gauge and Enterprise Focus tools were developed specifically for the Oracle environment in 1999 now has a wide user base in the financial, telecommunications, tertiary education and industrial sector.
As many of its clients operated in multiple database environments and ran different operating systems, PM Ora Software subsequently added multiple functionality to its Web-based Enterprise product suite. Its customer base includes BMW South Africa; Cell C, SA`s third cellular network provider; Absa Bank; and SA`s largest banking group and medical aid administrator Medscheme.
"By responding to requests from our Oracle customers, we have developed a suite of products capable of supporting multiple databases in environments with multiple operating systems. These include all flavours of Unix, VMS, Windows as well as other databases such as DB2, MS SQL, Sybase and Informix," says Dawson.
"This, coupled with the fact that Enterprise is priced very competitively because it is a rands-based product, has helped us penetrate some overseas markets successfully to date. The accreditation should now give us added impetus," he adds.
Having expanded its markets successfully in Africa with key installations in Nigeria, Cameroon, Swaziland, Namibia, Mozambique and Kenya, PM Ora has had early success in the UK and South America and is now targeting the rest of Europe and North America.
"We have built up extensive technical expertise in the Oracle environment which other divisions within PM Tech now leverage in their activities. But while becoming an accredited Oracle ISV is certainly a feather in our cap and should prove a great help to our business plans, we`re not resting on our laurels. Our next goal is to become a certified Oracle Partner," concludes Dawson.
