Local software company, PM Tech, has concluded an agreement with Mid Africa Software Distributors (MASD) in terms of which its PM Ora Professional and PM Monitor database management and monitoring software solutions will be distributed in 14 countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on Kenya, Ethiopia, Zambia and Cameroon.
MASD, headquartered in the eastern Cape, is an Oracle value-added distributor (VAR). Well-established in Africa, it supplies software products to more than 30 channel partners on the continent. This agreement is an extension of an existing relationship between the PM Tech and MASD in SA.
Tim Bergstrom, international marketing consultant at MASD, says PM Tech`s solutions are compatible with MASD`s core product, the Oracle database, and are ideally suited to the African marketplace due to their remote access facilities.
"This makes remote database management possible and negates the challenges posed by the vast distances and relative remoteness of many of our partners in Africa," he says.
"Currently, African companies in need of database management and administration skills have to incur the costs of shuttling DBAs [database administrators] from one location to another around the sub-continent. With the PM Tech offerings, these skills can be concentrated in one or more centralised locations and optimised over a wide area spanning many countries.
"The PM Tech offerings also help maximise the limited skills base, as they are easy to use - employing graphical user interfaces - allowing even non-technical people to undertake complex database management tasks and routines in-house, with the backup of PM Tech`s technical support personnel," he says.
Mike Leeuwen, a director of PM Tech, has high expectations for the performance of his company`s products in Africa. "They will be well received because of their price competitiveness. Both PM Ora and PM Monitor were developed in SA using local expertise and know-how and, compared to international competitors, they come with significant cost-saving advantages and readily available service and backup," he adds.
