PM Tech launches v2.3 of Ora Professional

Johannesburg, 16 Nov 2000

Version 2.3, officially launched at the SA Oracle User Group (SAOUG) conference earlier this month, has several enhancements over the previous versions and accommodates existing requests.

PM Tech is an IT company which supplies services, skills, hi-tech solutions and equipment to the SMME market. It also markets PM Ora Professional, which enables users to their Oracle database environment to maximise time for planning, development and expansion. The database can be managed and administered from any Web-enabled PC worldwide.

PM Ora Professional combines of seven modules containing key features for administering the database. Running on versioning technology, Ora Professional allows users to take a defined snapshot of the database, save it and use it for comparison against another database at anytime.

New enhancements of PM Ora version 2.3 include:

  • DDL/SQL extraction that can be scheduled and saved in the database for easy access by everyone from the Web. Users can re-create objects when dropped, or move synonyms/view/indexes from one database to the other.

  • In a database locking situation users will be informed what row is causing the problem. This allows users to identify bind variables and that may possibly cause the locking.

  • To identify the impact the drop of any object would have on a user`s database, the user can use the new dependency tree to identify all the objects (and SQL) which depend on that specific object.

  • Additions to the health check now also include checks that will ensure that users can create tables in a table space when using default table space storage parameters.

According to Mike Leeuwen, director of PM Tech, features of PM Ora version 2.3 include a completely JAVA driven navigation menu and a pugrade to the PM Monitor menu functionality. "This makes it more user friendly and this new version also includes basic OS operations and scans such as memory, disk space and IO," says Leeuwen.

He adds that PM Tech`s next major release Ver.2.5 will be available in December 2000, and will include, amongst other things, WAP database management.
