PM Tech targets MS environment with new service division

PM Tech, the software solutions development, networking and IT consulting company, has established a new support service division - PM Microsoft Services (PMMS) - to focus on helping companies optimise their Microsoft-based server environments.

"Often, not enough emphasis is placed on the design, implementation and maintenance of Microsoft environment in companies, even though they typically form the backbone of their client connectivity and are the most visible to end-users," says Mike Leeuwen, a director of PM Tech.

"It is also often wrongly assumed desktop support staff are capable and experienced enough to maintain MS server environments because of the products look and feel. In fact, with the increasing complexity of MS solutions, there is a growing need for highly skilled dedicated support."

PMMS will provide consulting, infrastructure implementation and support services to companies throughout Africa. It also offers onsite and simulated training geared to going beyond formal certification to ensure hey can identify and resolve problems in their MS environments.

"Formal training does not provide support staff with the problem solving skills needed to perform their job functions, so, in addition to the formal certification training, there is a need to train support staff in practical problem solving," says Leeuwen.

Consulting services include evaluation of the current Microsoft environment and recommending improvements, upgrades or new implementations where necessary. Once the environment has been re-designed, new installations have been done or new features have been implemented, the new environment is fully documented to ensure the area is maintained according to the design.

For existing or newly established environment PMMS Services also provides a full environment monitoring, maintenance and support services. These include event and performance monitoring of the server, operating system and software and disaster recovery planning and support.

"Companies are very aware of the need for hardware support, but many overlook the fact that it is equally important to maintain their server environment. If the server environment is not administered, it will gradually deteriorate. When maintained regularly, problems can be identified and rectified before any downtime or loss of data results," concludes Leeuwen.

Although PMMS Services can support all Microsoft products, it main focus is on server and back office products. These include: Windows 2000 Server & Advanced Server, NT 4 Server, NT4 & Windows 2000 Terminal Server, Exchange Server, IIS and Internet Related Products, ISA / Proxy Server, SQL Server and SMS. Desktop services include Windows 95 / 98, Windows NT4, Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio.
