The PM Tech group, a Proudly South African company, is intensifying its export focus in West Africa with the appointment of Megatech as its first Nigerian value-added reseller (VAR).
Megatech, acknowledged as one of the leading system integrators, software developers and Oracle database and solutions specialists in the West African region, will market, implement and support the Enterprise Gauge and Enterprise Focus suite of IT infrastructure monitoring and administration tools developed by PM Ora Software, a division of PM Tech.
"The West African market is currently dynamic. Massive infrastructural investments are driving an economic boom that is being supported by increasingly sophisticated IT environments," says Cornel van Lingen, a product specialist at PM Ora Software.
"We chose Megatech to help us address this growing market because of its extensive expertise in Oracle technology, on which PM Ora solutions primarily run, and its wide client base in the financial, telecoms, government and oil sectors - similar markets to those which we service in southern Africa."
Megatech, this year`s Oracle`s African Partner of the Year award winner, has already secured its first PM Ora sale. This is currently being implemented at a large Nigerian Bank.
"With a growing customer base of blue chip clients it obviously made sense to have on-the-ground representation in the region. Megatech is active throughout the region, and has the technical expertise to fully support the user base," he adds.
While PM Ora software offerings and Enterprise Gauge no longer run exclusively on the Oracle database, Megatech`s expertise in this area is critical, according to Van Lingen. "This is because the enterprise client profile being targeted is typically uses an Oracle environment and is looking for an infrastructure monitoring and administration solution.
"The region`s IT infrastructure used to be very small, but this is changing rapidly. Previously, companies had little use for processes such as change control or performance tuning, but they are implementing mission-critical systems, which require these solutions.
"They need tools to monitor their infrastructures 24 hours a day and give them facilities such as e-mail notification of potential problems," he says.
One of PM Ora`s strengths is that it can monitor all popular databases - Oracle, SQL, DB2 and Informix - via a Web browser from any desktop. In addition, it supports all standard operating systems - Windows, Unix and Linux.
"This is a major market differentiation as we`re able to meet the dual technology infrastructures - Oracle and SQL - typically found in most corporations. What is more, we can do it substantially cheaper than our global competitors."
The Web enablement of the solution was key in Megatech`s decision to partner with PM Ora because the Nigerian company is looking to expand its outsourced database administration services.
The Web browser facility will enable the company to offer remote monitoring and management services.
"Nigeria is still in the process of upgrading its roads infrastructure, but has already improved its telecommunications with the licensing of three cellular operators. So while it might often be difficult to travel to remote sites to provide services, it can be done easily using cellular satellite communications," adds Van Lingen.
