E-mail-based marketing is an increasingly tricky arena and one in which pMailer - a hosted service from upcoming Web software firm Prefix Technologies - is gaining market share.
Two recent feature additions are key components to this growth and allow clients to measure their likely penetration rates before delivery and embed images from a hosted Web interface for the first time.
A migration in recent months has seen some of South Africa's most prominent brands moving to the pMailer platform, including the likes of SABC commercial stations 5FM and GoodHope FM for their weekly mailshots. IT heavyweight Pinnacle Micro moved all divisions and companies to the service for its communications requirements over a two-month period in December and January after an initial three-month pilot in 2006. Publishing house Creamer Media has also signed up to move the subscriber messaging needs of its online and print titles to pMailer in March 2007.
"The key is an ability to offer value, trust and expertise," comments Prefix Technologies director Sam Hutchinson on recent success. "In order to deliver in this game you need a particular level of infrastructure and experience. This then enables a common-sense relationship where we engage our clients in order to achieve the highest possible message penetration while retaining integrity and respect for their brands."
The software-as-a-service approach has enabled Prefix Technologies to offer a very competitive service offering supported by a pre-sales cycle that ensures all client queries around security of their data, delivery testing, integration with current systems and the expansive feature set are dealt with. This is coupled with a managed service offering for those who wish to outsource all their e-mail marketing needs.
"The embedded image feature is an important one for South Africa as we are still moving toward broadband being the norm among message recipients," adds Hutchinson. "pMailer is one of the first services of this kind that ensures brand images are delivered even when a reader is offline."
