Pick 'n Pay has moved its six million-member smart shopper loyalty programme to fully digital.
In a statement released by the retailer, it says the enormous presence of smartphones in the country prompted Pick 'n Pay to move the programme to mobile phones. This is consistent with retail loyalty trends at some of the major retailers abroad, says the company.
According to Georgina Muirhead, head of Pick 'n Pay's digitals team, the smart shopper app was designed by the in-house digital team, and allows shoppers "to carry around the company's smart shopper kiosk" on their mobile phones.
"With the new Pick 'n Pay app for your phone, you can do all the things you would usually do at the smart shopper kiosk, but on your phone. You can switch points and receive a code to give to the teller to redeem points you have converted to your smart shopper card, check your points balance, find out what vouchers you have available to you to use at the till, or donate your points to your favourite charity," says Muirhead.
Steve Hoban, GM for smart shopper Pick 'n Pay, says the loyalty programme has evolved over the years as the retailer learnt what customers are looking for. "Just recently, we announced our partnership with AGL so that our smart shoppers can now switch their points to Avios and extend their travel, or upgrade their travel experience.
"The addition of the mobile app means that our customers can keep track of their smart shopper accounts wherever they are and whenever they want to."
The mobile app can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store and on Google Play. Users can also visit mobi.picknpay.co.za or dial *120*905#.
