Polycom Inc, considered to be one of the most established developers, manufacturers and suppliers of video conference technology in the world, has entered into a global strategic alliance with IT communication and network security specialist Biodata Germany to deliver strong media encryption solutions for their interactive video communications.

Consequently Polycom California announced the availability of TripleDES and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) for its industry-leading iPower and ViewStation interactive video communications systems MGC Multipoint Control Unit (MCU).

Barry Walker, vice-president of video communications marketing at Polycom, said the company is pleased to partner with Biodata to offer their customers a strong media encryption solution that does not impact the quality of their audio and video. "Security is an important initiative for Polycom and a critical requirement for a significant percentage of customers," he added. The Biodata ISDN-based encryption platform works seamlessly between public and private networks and can be connected to any Polycom videoconferencing system that supports H.320 (ISDN), or a Polycom video MCU and gateway. It allows video conference sessions to be secure without compromising their quality. It is also inter-operable with a wide range of systems from other industry vendors.

According to Ingrid Reimsch"ussel, director at Biodata IT South Africa, the deal could have powerful implications for the local market as multimedia communication and security continues to be seen as inextricably linked.

"Obviously this deal has immediate implications for the market abroad, but there is a very strong possibility that the local market could soon experience the same benefits of acquiring effective line security while using multimedia communication. Video conferencing is just one way modern businesses relate and there is peace of mind to be found through Biodata`s ISDN encryption solutions. This latest agreement is proof of a worldwide demand for video conference and multimedia security," says Reimsch"ussel.

Biodata IT South Africa is well equipped to provide full support, skills and service to the local market as it readies itself to communicate in the new age.
