Popsprint and Stationers first to implement Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press in KZN

Johannesburg, 25 Jun 2009

Bytes Document Solutions concessionaire, XDN Solutions, has sold the first Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press (DC700) in KwaZulu-Natal to Popsprint and Stationers.

Popsprint and Stationers will extend its business on the back of the new machine by offering corporate customers, advertising agencies and litho printers the opportunity of short-run, print-on-demand jobs.

“The DC700 enables us to diversify our product portfolio and offer a complementary mix of digital and litho services,” says Pops Ramdhani, owner of Popsprint and Stationers. “We have a good mix of the two and now we can meet the growing demand for personalised brochures and other short-run, print-on-demand work from our customers, without the exorbitant costs normally associated with those jobs in a litho environment. Seventy percent of our work is from the corporate environment and we have to bring our services in line with their needs.

“Litho for short-run jobs is just too costly. There is a latency between receiving the job and completing it, where digital can be done right now, and the materials and labour associated with digital printing is also more cost-effective.”

Ramdhani says the machine is an investment aimed at growing his business and he is working with Bytes Document Solutions and XDN Solutions to ensure that he drives new printing business by offering customers additional services and products.

Some of the benefits of the new machine to his business include being able to produce larger volumes, with less downtime due to larger feeder trays capable of holding 5 900 sheets that handle a wide range of substrates, including coated and uncoated, and being able to offer customers multi-position stapling, stacking, hole punching, saddle-stitch booklet making, coated brochures, newsletters, direct mail, catalogues, variable print postcards, tri-fold brochures, manuals and more.

Popsprint and Stationers can also ensure that client data is protected.

The DC700 protects sensitive data with security features such as data encryption, IP filtering, disk overwrite and password protection.

KwaZulu-Natal's first DC700 will be installed this month and operational by next, following installation and operator training.

“Pops realises that there is a huge opportunity for his business in the DC700,” says Garth Van Den Bergh, director at XDN Solutions. “His will be the first business in the region to be able to bring these services to market, which will be a major advantage for him. He has always embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and working together with XDN Solutions and Bytes Document Solutions we expect to significantly grow his business of printing and help him take his business to the next level.”

“Pops is a significant force in the KwaZulu-Natal printing market and has a long history in the industry,” says Paul Haglich, marketing manager, Production Systems Group at Bytes Document Solutions. “The fact that he has embraced the DC700 is a real feather in our cap.”
