Portal tackles SA cyber crime

Johannesburg, 23 Mar 2011

The Information Group of Africa (ISG) is working with key industry players to issue a cyber crime information portal and task team, says ISG's Craig Rosewarne.

Rosewarne, chairman and founder of the ISG, says the group is in the advanced stages of inviting key stakeholders to build both an African information portal and cyber crime response team that will serve its stakeholders throughout the continent.

Details of the cyber crime task team will be discussed at the -monthly gathering of the local ISG chapter in Johannesburg this Friday.

Rosewarne reckons around 350 local ISG members are scheduled to attend the meeting and will be introduced to the concepts and invited to provide input to the proposed projects.

He says the portal will likely be showcased to the broader IT security community at the upcoming ITWeb Security Summit, to be held in Sandton from 10 to 12 May. The portal is expected to go live shortly after the summit.

At the meeting this week, the ISG members will vote on speakers to address the summit.

Rosewarne, who has supported ITWeb's Security Summits since its inception six years ago, says involving the information security community in the programme of the conference is unprecedented.

“It is a first in SA and possibly Africa,” he says. “By doing this, ITWeb is showing commitment to the security community by actually involving them in the decision-making process.”
