Information security company Tumbleweed Communications, locally distributed by iSecurity, has received the highest rating in the latest Gartner MarketScope report on gateway encryption, beating seven other gateway security vendors.
Gateway encryption, in which no desktop software is required by sender or receiver, is seeing large amounts of revenue worldwide, estimated at about $40 million to $50 million, according to the report.
Participating companies were judged on market understanding, offering/product strategy, overall viability, customer experience, operations and sales strategy.
Redwood-based Tumbleweed Communications was the only company to receive a "positive" rating, which is described as "demonstrating strength in specific areas, but is largely opportunistic".
PGP, PostX and Voltage Security were all rated "promising", described in the report as "showing potential in specific areas, but initiative has not fully evolved or matured".
The lowest scorers were CipherTrust, Entrust and ZixCor, which all received a "caution" rating, described by the report as "facing challenges in one or more areas".
