Lotus Development SA, an IBM company, has announced the local availability from next month of iNotes Web Access. The product is a completely re-architected Web-based client, offering new functionality for browser-based messaging solutions.
According to Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing manager at Lotus Development SA, iNotes Web Access provides a powerful way to access Domino`s core messaging, collaboration and PIM (Personal Information Management) functions through a Web browser, while allowing users to work both on- and offline.
"Users can work from a disconnected Web session to manage e-mail messages, contracts, calendars and `to do` items," he adds.
iNotes Web Access is a complete messaging environment, offering all the key features of the Domino server in an easy-to-use Web interface. "It provides the features needed for today`s Web-based mail user. Included are such core Notes family capabilities as offline replication, the Welcome Page, Lotus Sametime integration for real-time collaboration and index-based searching," explains Tlhabanelo.
The product also includes full calendaring/scheduling support, out-of-the-office notification, and spell checking. Says Tlhabanelo: "In short, the features, ease-of-use and benefits of the Domino environment all make iNotes Web Access a good choice for Web-based messaging."
Tlhabanelo highlights that a company can easily extend its enterprise using the iNotes Web Access technology to reach customers and business partners without requiring them to run anything but a Web browser on their PCs.
For customers that have already installed Domino R5, the addition of this new Web-client will provide a means of extending their messaging and collaboration infrastructure both inside and outside the company`s intranet, through a secure and pervasive connection, explains Tlhabanelo.
"Customers will be able to gain access to these tools from Internet caf'es, Internet kiosks as well as other users` computers. The approach of this product centres on all-round access and availability, something that is highly sought-after in today`s market place," he concludes.
