Having been an established Postec distributor for the past eight years, Unisys Africa is proud to re-affirm its close working relationship with Postec as a distributor and support partner in Southern Africa.
While uncertainty existed in the marketplace due to the provisional liquidation of Intaba Technologies, Unisys Africa continued delivering services and products from Postec's portfolio of forecourt and wet stock control systems for the oil industry in Southern Africa.
Postec's systems architecture is based around the Postec Communication Controller (PCC), a proprietary robust hardware platform designed specifically for this purpose.
This enables the PCC to provide virtually unlimited connectivity to electronic forecourt devices without degrading the performance of the forecourt LAN.
Unisys will continue to look after the service delivery and distribution component while Postec provides products and training. Unisys conducts remote management and assists with data retrieval at forecourt terminals. Once the product is manufactured, procured and prepared, Unisys delivers, and installs the equipment. Unisys also provides continuous maintenance.
"We are delighted with the commitment that Unisys has shown during this difficult period and we look forward to ongoing successes in the African market with Unisys," says Mike Jones, Business Development Manager, Postec Data Systems.
"Unisys has the experience and support structures in place to ensure that our mutual end-user customers achieve their business objectives from the Postec wet stock management systems that Unisys implement for them."
Dave Hannington, Customer Programme Manager, GOIS, Unisys Africa, says Postec's main differentiator is its focus and specialisation on forecourt and wet stock control, which are the most important areas that are often treated as adjunct to the point of sale systems.
He says: "Unisys commends Postec's proposition to develop a universal communication controller for the retail and commercial fuel industry and acknowledges the strides Postec has made in providing a common interface for point of sale applications and using a solid state controller to ensure reliability and performance."
Unisys currently provides support and maintenance to several forecourt sites in and around South Africa using integrated systems that handle point of sale, pump control and fuel sales, as well as wet stock control and card payments. The company is also responsible for servicing and maintaining all hardware at the sites where these systems are implemented, including point of sale units, bar code scanners and receipt printers.
Unisys has successfully worked with various major fuel companies in and around South Africa where it has deployed custom development solutions.
