UUNET SA has implemented a hosting solution for the newest long-term insurance company, Professional Provident Society Insurance Company Limited. The scalable solution ensures successful online communication with the company`s 140 000 policyholders and also enables them to manage portfolios in real-time.
"All our Web servers were hosted in-house, this limited our growth potential as it only provided for our Internet connectivity needs. We service the needs of over 70% of SA`s graduate professionals, and the growth of our client base facilitated our need for a customised hosting solution," says Jonathan Boucher, IT relationship manager at PPS.
"PPS Insurance wanted to partner with a service provider (SP) with international experience and bandwidth capacity. The SP had to provide us with 24x7 connectivity as well as added bandwidth functionality to facilitate our future growth. UUNET SA provided us with a customised solution for all our needs."
UUNET SA installed a 512Kbps communications link for Internet and Internet Mail Usage directly to the PPS Insurance office. The link now has 256Kbps access capabilities, allowing for a scalable solution. Additionally, a 64K secure point- to-point service from their offices to the UUNET SA datacentre has been installed to ensure that services and information is kept current and accurate through remote updates.
"As UUNET SA is also hosting PPS Insurance`s Web servers at its data centre, we are now able to prioritise the bandwidth on the link, ensuring redundancy functionality which guarantees almost 100% access to the Internet. We also manage the process and monitor the systems around the clock in addition to providing physical support," explains Rudi Hefer, account manager at UUNET SA."
Says Boucher: "Our policyholders can now manage their portfolio`s online. They can access regular updates on their portfolios, apply for benefits online and check the current status of their activities, among others. Additionally, once we are able to centralise all our policyholders` information, we will be able to centrally manage the database, which is a powerful marketing tool to ascertain our policyholders` future needs."
